Sensei Beth Dannenbrink of White Tiger Martial Arts was honored by her students during a ceremonial promotion to the rank of fourth degree black belt on Oct. 24.

During the ceremony, she said, “What keeps me motivated is my students and sharing my knowledge with them. It is a great honor to be recognized by my students.”

Two third degree black belts from the Charles City Karate Club, Sensei Byron Adkins and Sensei Pernell “Slick” Thomas, attended the ceremony and shared stories of their training with Dannenbrink. They noted her promotion is well deserved.

Dannenbrink has been providing karate instruction for over 10 years in her White Tiger Martial Arts dojo at New Kent Airport’s Activity Center. She has created martial arts programs for New Kent Parks and Recreation.

About 13 years ago, she started the “Lil’ Dragons” for children ages 3-6 that introduces them and their parents to karate. The program provides a solid foundation for young students where they learn to respect themselves, their parents or guardians, teachers, and others. The program aims at helping children increase concentration and attention spans and build confidence in their abilities.
