Letter to the Editor: Asks why EMS in CC not delivered as promised
I write to ask why Charles City residents do not have the 24-hour paid EMS promised by the Board of Supervisors when it passed its budget last April.
I am 82 years old. During the past year I fell and broke several ribs. When 911 was called I was told no ambulance was available and I would have to get to the hospital on my own despite being unstable on my feet and in extreme pain. I suppose if I were suffering chest pain for another reason I would have been given the same response.
One quarter of the fiscal year has already passed, and I am informed there has been zero increase in paid emergency service. Since the increase in service was to be funded by a 2 cent tax increase, I would also like to know whether I may take a deduction from my real estate taxes due Dec. 5 because the money is not been spent for the purpose given in raising taxes.
