Along for the ride

Eddie Wood mans the controls while his grandchildren ride the Ferris wheel he recently installed in his backyard, next door to his business, Wood’s Body Shop, on Route 60 in New Kent. Wood discovered the 18-passenger, 1985 Little Eli Wheel, that had been part of past Virginia State Fairs, at a storage facility in Henrico County and bought the ride. At night, hundreds of lights on the wheel give the appearance of a space ship landing, Wood said. Due to insurance costs, the ride is not open to the public.
