Brothers Joseph L. Charity III and Julian E. Charity are excelling in their chosen fields.

Joseph was recently made vice president of Joseph R. Loring & Associates Inc. in New York City. He formerly worked as a senior associate at Loring, overseeing personnel and many types of projects. He has worked on projects from high end shoe stores in Trump Towers to the American Airlines Terminal at JFK.

Joseph is a 2001 graduate of Hopewell High School. He went on to earn an academic scholarship to attend North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in architectural engineering.

Right off the press came younger brother Julian with his military history booklet “Courage at Home and Abroad: Family Stories of Sacrifice and Salvation During Times of War.”

It is based on original family documents and images from the family archives of Shirley Plantation.

The work was researched and written by Julian, who is the staff historian at Shirley Plantation. A book signing took place Nov. 10-12 at the Store House at Shirley Plantation in Charles City.

Julian is a 2003 graduate of Hopewell High School. He earned the Provost scholarship to Virginia State University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in history. While at VSU, he was in the Trojan Explosion Marching Band and a member of Horse Power.

Joseph and Julian are the sons of Joyce and Joseph Charity Jr. of Charles City. They are the grandsons of Edmond and Rebecca Christian and Gloria Charity of Charles City and the late J. Leroy Charity.
