Bicycles stored in Randy Rosemond’s garage await distribution to New Kent’s Christmas Mother program.

New Kent Rotary Club, working through its Christmas tree sales, raised enough money to double its Richmond Area Bicycling Association donation, which in turn doubled the number of bikes purchased for the county’s Christmas Mother.

Purchasing bicycles to support the work of Charles City and New Kent Christmas Mothers was an idea that occurred to the Richmond Area Bicycling Association over 10 years ago. Dr. Randy Rosemond is responsible for the collection in the local area.

Volunteers store, build, and distribute the bikes. RABA members then show up at the storage area with trucks, vans, and trailers to transport bikes to New Kent, Charles City, and other localities.

Rotary tree sale income is also used to support the Band Boosters at New Kent High School.

“We were really pleased with the community’s support of our tree sales in this first year of this project,” said club chairman Claude Carmack in a press release. “We are hoping it becomes an annual event to benefit the community. You’ll be hearing from us soon as we gear up for Rotary Day at the Races.”
