Letter to the Editor: Applauds effort of local representatives

As a resident of the 97th District and a New Kent County business owner, I want express my appreciation to our representatives at the capitol, Del. Chris Peace and Sen. Tommy Norment.

Del. Peace took the time to meet with my daughter, Lily, when she visited the capitol advocating for more funding for people with disabilities. No matter how busy they were, he and his assistant made Lily and my wife feel that he would help any way he could and he did.

It is nice to walk into a delegate’s office with the door opened by your daughter. I went up to see our representatives about the tire recycling program that had inadvertently been dropped. It would have serious impact on our business as well as on the scrap tire problem rising from the ashes after Virginia was a leader in developing a plan to dispose and recycle millions of tires.

If it wasn’t for Del. Peace and Sen. Norment taking time to hear about the problem and trying to resolve the situation, another good program would have slipped through the cracks and Virginia might be back on the way to another Winchester tire fire.

We mostly hear about bickering and politics from the capitol. I am grateful that we have two men who will not only listen to a couple of business men, but also a young lady who needs someone to represent the disabled throughout Virginia. Gentlemen, thanks for your time and effort.
