New Kent County Fair seeks participants, vendors
The New Kent County Fair Association is preparing for the 42nd annual county fair scheduled for Colonial Downs Sept. 20-22.
Miss New Kent County Fair Pageant and Friends of the Pageant information and applications are on the website www.newkentcountyfair.com. Girls between the ages of 5 and 21 are encouraged to participate. There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, June 18, 7 p.m. at the New Kent Visitors’ Center located on Route 106 near the intersection with Interstate 64. Deadline for applications is July 19.
Applications and information on the 5K and Kids’ Fun Run are also on the website. The races will take place on the Colonial Downs track beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. In the 5K race, prizes are awarded according to age levels.
The fair is looking for vendors to sell items or to share information with the public. Several spaces have already been sold, but there are more available. Applications are on the website.
Complete information about exhibit entries can be found on the website. The booklet is also printed and available at Heritage Library and C&F Bank in Providence Forge.
New this year will be “Big Bingo,” which offers a jackpot of $600. Held inside the building on Friday night, the area will open at 6 p.m. with the first of 14 games beginning at 7 p.m.
Entrance fee is $25 with each game paying $50. You must be 18 years or older to participate. Proceeds will go to the Quinton Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary, which will be operating the games.
Also new this year will be a car show that will benefit the New Kent Historical Society. Entry fee is $25 per vehicle. Judging will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 12 noon. Further information and an application are on the website. All vehicles must be pre-registered.
Assisting the fair this year will be members of the criminal justice classes of Bridging Communities Regional Technical School. Helping with parking for the car show, getting the parade ready, and manning a booth to assist lost or confused parents will be their main objectives.
Watch the Chronicle during the summer for further details on what’s happening at the fair.
