National 4-H week celebrates in CC, NK

Charles City and New Kent County celebrates National 4-H week from Oct. 7-11.

More than six million young people across the country will partake in the celebration. In Charles City, more than 375 youth, 21 adult volunteers, and two youth volunteers help with the 4-H program. Charles City has participated in Junior 4-H camp, in-school programming, and a nutrition program in conjunctions with the county’s park and recreation summer program.

In New Kent, more than 390 youth, 54 adult volunteers, and 22 youth volunteers have contributed to the program. New Kent has also participated in the Junior 4-H camp, as well as community clubs, the state 4-H Congress, and in-school programming.

According to research, 4-H has a positive impact in the life of youth, including their ability to contribute to the community, engage in healthier behaviors, and engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs.
