Letter to the Editor: Says more concern needed for CD motorcycle races

I found it quite interesting that the people quoted in the Dec. 19-Jan. 8 article in the Chronicle are most supportive of motorcycle racing at Colonial Downs, yet don’t appear to live anywhere near this major source of noise pollution.

Two members of the planning commission who I believe misrepresented the views of the residents of both Brickshire and Oakmont Villas do not live in either of these communities, according to local telephone books. Neither does a particular member of the board of supervisors who has backed the motorcycle event, live close to the facility. What’s more, none of the supervisors who voted overwhelmingly in support of last year’s event, appear to live close to Colonial Downs.

Now, it seems they are about to give the 2014 event the thumb’s up despite the fact that the event will end at 8 p.m., unlike the afternoon finish this past August. I can’t imagine how pleased parents of small children living in Oakmont Villas will be to receive this news. Getting children to sleep at night is often hard enough. Having to compete with the roar of motorcycles will make it even harder.

But, who cares? Certainly not the Colonial Downs’ president, who also doesn’t live within earshot of his unwelcome noisemaker.
