New Kent schools’ district spelling bee winner Bryanna Seay (top) ponders her next word from caller Ross Miller and (below) receives a dictionary as first prize from Miller. The eighth grader at New Kent Middle School won Wednesday’s bee in the ninth round by correctly spelling “diagnosis.” She advances to the state bee on March 8 in Richmond. New Kent Elementary fifth grader Dakarai Knorr finished as runner-up. At bottom, all nine contestants await the bee’s start.
