Cameron Grammer, a sophomore at New Kent High School, will attend the Coast Guard Academy’s Youth Leadership Conference on Feb. 22, in New London, Connecticut.

The conference is led by Coast Guard cadets and organized to expose young and developing leaders of tomorrow in grades 8-10. The conference focuses on principles of Coast Guard leadership through interactive engineering and leadership based activities.

Students will participate in a number of leadership theory discussions, as well as team-oriented engineering and management exercises. They will also get the opportunity to observe as theories are discussed and put into practice on the Coast Guard Academy’s training vessels.

Grammer is one of 24 kids chosen from across the United States to attend this conference. He was selected for demonstrating leadership qualities, as well as succeeding at the academic level. He is also a member of the America Division with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet corps in Richmond.

He is the son of Ronald and Tonya Grammer of New Kent.
