Letter to the editor: Says don’t let elected officials ‘bully’ schools
I recently attended the Charles City Board of Supervisor’s town hall meeting and the Charles City School Board budget meeting. During those meetings, I heard and saw some very passionate cries. I saw adult parents, teachers, and community leaders on the verge of tears. In some cases, I saw the tears as they pleaded for our schools and I was very moved. I saw and heard our children, though no fault of their own, beg for their schools.
My fellow Charles City citizens, this is outrageous. I cannot believe that we will allow ourselves to be bullied by our elected officials.
Whether intentional or not, we cannot allow our school system to be held hostage by what I perceive as incompetent leadership. To have the entire county’s financial well-being to hinge on one private company (Waste Mangement) is financially irresponsible.
This is not a personal attack on any member, but it is an attack on their leadership skills. I ask you, for the sake of our children, not to withhold or cut funding to our schools.
