The New Kent County Fair Association is preparing for the 43rd annual county fair. The fair will be held at Colonial Downs race track Sept. 12-14,.

Applications and information on the 5K, a one-mile run, and the “Family & Friends” Relay are also on the website. The races will take place on the Colonial Downs track beginning at 7:00 PM on Friday evening. Prizes are awarded in the 5K race at all age levels. The fair is looking for vendors to sell items or to share information with the public. Several spaces have already been sold, but there are more available. Applications are on our website, www.newkentcountyfair.com.

Complete information about exhibit entries can be found on the website. The booklet is also printed and available at the Heritage Public Library, the Visitors’ Center, and at Citizens & Farmers Bank in Providence Forge.

“Big Bingo,” which offers a jackpot of $600.00, wil be held inside the building on Friday night, beginning at 6 p.m., with the first of the 14 games beginning at 7:00 p.m. Entry fee is $30.00, with each game paying $50.00. You must be 18 years or older to participate. Proceeds from “Big Bingo” will go to the Quinton Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary.

Assisting the county fair this year will be members of the criminal justice classes of Bridging Communities Regional Technical School, a school recently opened in New Kent. They will assist in organizing the parade, manning booths for assistane, and providing guidance to all visitors.

Last year, New Kent County Fair received multiple awards in a variety of categories. New Kent’s Fair Association received the 2014 “Best Overall” communication award from the Virginia Association of Fairs Convention. The association was judged in a variety of areas including pamphlets, local coverage, and overall communication to the public. The group also won four blue ribbons, four red ribbons, and three white ribbons in individual contests.
