St. Peter’s Parish has awarded three New Kent High School seniors one-year scholarships of $1,000 each.

This year’s recipients are Rebecca Bradford, who will attend Catawba College and major in physical therapy with an emphasis on children with special needs; Moriah Hancock, who will attend Virginia Commonwealth University to major in theater and performing arts; and Joseph Nash, who will attend Liberty University and major in sports medicine for a career as a sports trainer.

These students were chosen by a committee made up of Bill O’Keefe, the Rev. S. Paul Rowles, Sally Smith, Janie Philbates, Denise Fazio, and Kim Isringhausen. Committee chair Bill O’Keefe remarked that each of these young adults demonstrated maturity, strong moral values, academic achievement, a commitment to their community and are active in New Kent High School activities. They reflect well on their families and fully meet the selection criteria of the Scholarship fund.

The funds for the scholarships come from the Louise Miller Clopton and William Boyd Clopton Memorial Scholarship Fund. Awards are made to students who demonstrate strong moral character, religious involvement, community service, motivation, and academic success.
