Carolyne Grammer, a fifth grader at G.W. Watkins Elementary School, is the Virginia state winner in the 2014 U.S. Department of Juvenile Justice's National Missing Children's Day Poster Contest. In the photo, she is flanked by Virginia State Police 1st Sgt. Scott Downs (right), representing the Virginia Missing Children Clearinghouse, and Sgt. Brian Best. The officers presented Carolyne, who is holding a reproduction of her winning poster, with a certificate and a basket full of prizes during a ceremony on Friday at the school. Her poster depicts four broken hearts, one in each corner, along with a half of a face that is shedding a tear to symbolize the feelings of family and friends of a missing child. The poster is emblazoned with the phrase, "Bring our missing children home." Carolyne's first place entry now heads to national competition with other state winners.
