Feedmore announces Summer program

FeedMore is participating in USDA’s Summer Food Service Program. The program begins on June 23 and continues until Aug. 29 at nearly 50 sites throughout central Virginia.

Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. There will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

“As many area children look forward to summer, those that struggle with hunger issues may wonder where they will turn to find the breakfast and lunch that they’ve relied on during the school year,” said Hope Kestle, FeedMore’s children’s program manager. “FeedMore is proud to once again offer a Summer Food Service Program and will provide thousands of meals to at-risk children, ensuring that this region’s children grow and develop with the nutrition they need to be successful when the next school year begins in the fall.”

Last year, FeedMore provided over 152,000 meals through its Summer Food Service Program.

In Charles City, meals will be offered at the elementary school, with breakfast at 9 a.m. and lunch at 12 p.m. from June 23 to Aug. 8.

To be eligible to receive free meals at a closed/enrolled site, children must meet the income guidelines for reduced priced meals in the National School Lunch Program.

Children who are part of households that receive SNAP, or benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDIR), or Temporary Assistance of Needy Families (TANF), are automatically eligible to receive free meals.
