Six retirees from New Kent Public Schools were honored Monday evening during a recognition ceremony held inside New Kent High School’s media center. Combined, the six retirees have a combined 202 years of service to the educational field, with 141 of those years dedicated to the New Kent school system. This year’s retirees are (l to r) New Kent Middle School principal Sammy Fudge (four years), New Kent High School clinic aide Delores Sheffield (10 years), George Watkins Elementary School reading and math teacher Linda Upshaw (17 years), New Kent Middle School science instructor Kenneth Otey (42 years), New Kent Elementary School kindergarten teacher Beverly Gardner (30 years), and New Kent High School mathematics instructor John Gulick (38 years).
