Editorial: Instead of living by fear, we should live by faith
With all the concerns going on in the world, fear has arisen in a variety of areas that has caused a major ripple effect that is felt by each one of us. I am hoping and praying that we start to live more by faith and not by fear.
One thing that I will clarify is that we all are afraid. We are afraid of the unknown. We are afraid of failure. We are afraid of not being able to control situations in life. But I’m here to tell you is that if we approach everyday with positivity and continue to pray on situations, then our faith will triumph over fear.
The newest fear in the coronavirus has made its way into our minds. Between seeing newscasts about the spread to deaths among people, the widespread frenzy has penetrated our society and struck fear. We can be afraid of this, or we can choose to accept that it’s here. There is always advice on how to avoid this virus or preventative measures, but being afraid will not stop the results, the spread, or help find a cure.
We should have the faith to continue to live each day with purpose. If you’re reading this, then I can clearly say that you face a lot of unknown situations every day. It could be as simple as getting into a vehicle and traveling to work. You have faith that you will arrive safely, but you don’t know if there will be an accident along the way.
Similar to the coronavirus, there have been many times when the unknown has shaken our society. From the “Y2K” threat that revolved around technology shutting down, to an unsuspecting earthquake on the east coast, those incidents sent many people into a panic, whether the event lasted for a couple of seconds to a couple of months.
But I’m here to tell you that if we put more faith in our beliefs and not into our fears, things will become better. They may not happen instantaneously, but they will come. There are times when faith has pushed us through using prayer in watching a loved one recover, to that person beating cancer and entering remission, there are always moments where we were strong in our beliefs that have changed the outcome.
Be knowledgeable about the situation and be hopeful of the positive. Your actions can help others. More importantly, they can help yourself. Taking more of the chance to live on faith and not fear is a lesson that we all can use to learn. And all we have to do is have faith that this lesson can do it for us.
