Letter to the Editor: This isn’t the United States of America that we are living in
The United States of America is a lie.
The symbol of a flag waving over us is a superficial show of unity that is not really there. Recalcitrant Republicans facing stubborn Democrats, anti-vaxers against the vaccinated, mask wearers vs. non-mask wearers, and the list continues.
The climate change crowd and nonbelievers in this, the rich taking inadequate action to relieve the plight of the poor, the antiabortionists unwilling to give an inch to women’s right to abortion, white privilege continuing to suppress or marginalize African Americans, Native Americans, Latinos, Asians, and other minorities, and gun control advocates versus those opposed. Factions not mentioned here also divide America.
You know the old saying, “United we stand, divided we fall?” Our nation will fall if we don’t embrace and act on our principles of teamwork, ironing out differences, cooperation, constructive purpose, worthy vision for the future, respect for one another, along with a bit of humility. I am 88 years old and won’t be here to see what happens, but my descendants will.
Other world powers with methods of operating according to a lower moral code that us know are right there waiting for us to weaken ourselves with divisiveness so that they can defeat us.
