GWES recognized as Project ADAM Heart Safe School
George Watkins Elementary School (GWES) has been named as a Project ADAM (Automated Defibrillators in Adam’s Memory) Heart Safe School.
GWES is one of 33 schools I Virginia to achieve this designation, which reflects a school’s commitment to preventing sudden cardiac arrest and ensuring staff members are prepared to respond effectively in an emergency. Criteria that must be met to be recognized for the achievement include having 10 staff members certified in advanced CPR, having at least four Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) strategically placed in areas where they are easy accessible, a written cardiac emergency response plan, and annual staff training on sudden cardiac arrest recognition.
GWES collaborates with Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU in working on Project ADAM.
