Golden girl: Torrence earns trip to Hollywood on American Idol

From singing national anthems to the auditioning floor, New Kent native Grayson Torrence continues to be a fan favorite while receiving massive support from her hometown community.

New Kent native Grayson Torrence is seeing lots of stars, especially in Hollywood.

Torrence’s journey to success has landed her a “Golden Ticket” on the hit reality show “American Idol.” The Golden Ticket allows the New Kent native to participate in Hollywood in front of a live audience with an opportunity to be named as the next “American Idol.”

The 21-year old gymnastics instructor sang “Fall in Line” by Christina Aguilera during her audition. Judges Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Carrie Underwood gave her a standing ovation, with Bryan saying that it was her favorite performance of the night. Audiences have agreed, with 3,400 people liking her performance according to American Idol’s YouTube channel.

American Idol is broadcasted every Sunday night at 8 p.m. on ABC. Torrence’s next appearance will take place at the conclusion of the auditioning round.
