Dogwood Classic

Spectators line the rail and watch as the closely bunched eight-horse field in the second race at Saturday’s Dogwood Classic steeplechase races at Colonial Downs gallops through the final turn and heads for the last fence in the 2¼-mile event. Tailgating proved popular for the New Kent residents (above) and most attending Saturday’s inaugural running of the Dogwood Classic steeplechase races at Colonial Downs.

Horses and riders clear one of the fences in the first of five races.

Spectators along the rail cheer for their favorite mount and photograph the action. Richmond Ski Club won the tailgating competition.
