Hopewell Baptist Church in New Kent County is heading up a relief effort to collect supplies for the people affected by the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.

A delegation from the church plans to travel to Moore on May 31 using tractor/trailers and other trailers to haul the supplies.

Supplies needed include thermometers, plastic bandage strips, cotton swabs, dental floss, sports drinks, shoes of all sizes, medical ointments and creams, feminine hygiene products, razors, hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial wipes, snack size chips, empty plastic travel containers, bottled water, underwear of all sizes, socks of all sizes, plastic trash and sandwich bags of all sizes, senior citizen supplies, reading glasses, shampoo, soap, and other toiletries.

Monetary donations are also accepted. Make checks payable to Hopewell Baptist Church and note “Oklahoma Disaster Relief.” Checks can be mailed to Hopewell Baptist Church, 5061 Hopewell Road, New Kent, Va. 23124. Organizers say a corporation is matching all monetary donations that are received.
