Criminal history helps land NK man 10-year prison term

By Andre Jones | October 10, 2013 1:35 pm

A man with an extensive criminal history will now spend the next 10 years of his life behind prison walls after accepting a plea deal during Sept. 30 New Kent Circuit Court proceedings.

Guy William Bilodeau, 53, of 3810 Ropers Church Road, Lanexa, entered Alford pleas of guilty to one count of aggravated sexual battery and one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor as part of a deal that will sentence him to 10 years in prison, with a total of 20 years suspended. The 10-year prison term exceeds sentencing guidelines due to the defendant’s criminal background.

In a summary of evidence provided by Commonwealth’s Attorney Linwood Gregory, Bilodeau committed the crimes on July 30 with an underage victim. According to evidence, an older sibling of the victim witnessed the event through a window where the defendant was committing the offense. Further evidence resulted from a telephone call in which Bilodeau contacted the victim’s mother and admitted that he “needed his (expletive deleted) beat” for what he did.

In an unrelated case, a man will face at least one year in jail and a $1,000 fine after pleading guilty to DUI (fourth offense).

Darren Wright Snyder, 42, of 503 Dartmoor Drive, Apt. 201, Newport News, confessed that he was intoxicated when a state trooper pulled over his vehicle on Interstate 64 on April 6 after seeing the vehicle on fire. Upon investigation, a breathalyzer test revealed Snyder’s alcohol level to be nearly twice the legal limit. The defendant said he had just left a cookout at a friend’s house in Charles City when everything occurred. A charge in lower court of driving on a suspended license was dropped.

Wright faces the minimum sentence due to the offense being his fourth within the last 10 years. Formal sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 18.

In other New Kent Circuit Court proceedings on Sept. 30:

–Russell Christopher Edwards, 32, of 227 N. Linden Ave., Highland Springs, accepted a plea deal to one count each of burglary and grand larceny. Edwards admitted on July 5 that he entered the house of Donald Teas and stole five fishing rods. In a summary of evidence, the victim noticed a suspicious truck as he worked across the street. When he returned, he noticed his fishing rods had been moved to the deck. When he walked inside the house, he saw the defendant sprint to the truck and flee the scene.
As part of the deal, Edwards received 20 years in prison on the burglary charge with four years active to serve. All 20 years on the grand larceny charge were suspended.

–Anthony Quinn McMorris, 54, of 3201 Garland Avenue, Richmond, entered an Alford plea of guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor unlawful entry. In a summary of evidence, McMorris was stopped on April 18 after an officer noticed two air conditioners on a trailer without a license plate. Upon investigation, it was determined the units were removed without permission. Under the agreement, McMorris received 12 months in jail with all but one suspended.

–Amanda Renee Roberts, (address unknown), was sentenced to five years in jail with four years, six months suspended on the first charge of prescription fraud. Five years on each of two other prescription fraud charges were suspended. Roberts failed to complete an alternative program for first offender status, resulting in the guilty conviction and having to serve the active sentence.

–Simone Latrea Worrell, 20, of 223 W. Oceanview Avenue, Apt. 5, Norfolk, was sentenced to an active term of one year in jail on the first of five counts of forging a summons. Four years on the first count and five years on each of the remaining counts were suspended. Worrell accepted a plea deal on July 29 and admitted she wrote a cousin’s name on the documents. She will also serve 10 additional days in jail for failing to appear for an earlier trial.
