Dozen injured in three-car crash

Twelve people received injuries stemming from an Oct. 12 accident at an intersection in New Kent.

According to a Virginia State Police report, at approximately 7:15 p.m. authorities responded to a three vehicle crash on Route 249 at the intersection of Tunstall Road.

The crash occurred after the driver of a 2007 GMC Arcadia failed to stop and failed to yield the right-of-way at the stop sign and struck a 2004 GMC Yukon. The impact caused the Yukon to overturn and both vehicles struck a 2013 Ford Fusion that was stopped at the stop sign. The GMC was heading south on Tunstall Road, the Yukon was heading west on Route 249 and the Ford was heading east on Route 249 at the time of the crash.

All four occupants in the GMC, all five occupants in the Yukon, and three passengers in the Ford were injured in the crash and were transported to a local hospital. Everyone was wearing a safety belt.

The driver of the GMC, Anne B. Martin, 28, of the 5000 block of Herring Creek Road, Charles City, was charged with reckless driving. No other charges have been placed. The investigation remains on-going.

New Kent Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for any information in regards to several mailboxes and paperboxes destroyed in the county.

According to the police report, the incidents occurred during the early morning hours of Oct. 13. Damage values of the incident range up to $100.

Man arrested for attempted burglary

New Kent Sheriff’s Office personnel have arrested a Quinton man for attempting to break into a New Kent business.

Gary Tyler Dowell, 19, of 1201 Dispatch Road, was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to break into Tony’s High Performance. According to an Oct. 10 police report, a phone call about suspicious activity was received by New Kent Sheriff’s Office concerning an individual in the vicinity of Route 60 and Route 618. Deputies responded to the call and found an individual matching Dowell’s description. After reviewing surveillance video from the business, Dowell was taken into custody. He was being held on a $1,500 secured bond.

In an unrelated incident, a woman has been arrested on charges of burglary and petty larceny.

Melissa Dawn Milton, 27, of 2108 Oregon Street, Richmond, was taken into custody on Oct.17. According to the police report, Milton allegedly burglarized a home on Dispatch Road and stole a small item. She was later arrested and held on $2,500 bond.

In another unrelated incident, Sharod Nathaniel Blakey, 31, of 3118 Garland Avenue, was arrested on one charge of grand larceny. Blakey allegedly stole to HVAC units from a residence on Vaidens Pond Road on April 21. He was being held on a $5,000 secured bond.
