Icy road conditions cause 16 crashes in New Kent; one in Charles City

Deteriorating road conditions thanks to freezing rain and ice has caused 16 accidents in New Kent and one in Charles City.

According to Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar, the total count of crashes began at midnight on Mar. 17 up until 10 a.m. this morning. According to the officer, most accidents occurred along Interstate 64 in New Kent.

Road conditions are expected to improve over the next few days as temperatures return to above freezing.
