CC woman found deceased in car

A missing Charles City woman has been found deceased inside of her vehicle.

Lashonda Monic Jones, 26, was found on Apr. 14 around 3 p.m. according to police reports. Her vehicle was located near a dirt work towards the southern part of Charles City, shortly after crossing the Benjamin Harrison Bridge from Prince George. EMTs arrived at the scene and administered first aid, but she was found unresponsive and later died at the scene.

Jones was last seen Easter Sunday morning (Apr. 20) between 10-11 a.m., traveling north on Route 106 from a Sunoco gas station in Prince George.

Her body was taken to a nearby examiner’s facility to determine the cause of death.

Bike ride to impact traffic in CC, NK

On May 10, Charles City and New Kent County will be part of the 2014 Cap2Cap bicycle ride which starts in James City and the City of Richmond.

Charles City Sheriff’s Office are urging motorists to be aware of hundreds of cyclists on the following roads in Charles City between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.- John Tyler Memorial Highway, Wilcox Neck Road, The Glebe Lane, Sturgeon Point Road, Courthouse Road, Lott Cary Road, Adkins Road, Barnetts Road, Church Lane, Wayside Road and Old Union Road.

A portion of the event will be on Route 60 in New Kent. Please use caution if traveling these roads on the day of the race and remember to share the road.

Felony arrests made in New Kent

A Quinton man is now in custody after allegedly refusing to leave the residence of a female companion. Thomas Lee Taylor, 26, of the 7700 block of Airport Road, was arrested on Apr. 15 on one count of abduction.

According to the police report, Taylor refused to exit the home of a female companion. When deputies arrived, the female walked out to speak with deputies, but Taylor refused to exit. A warrant was subsequently issued, and he was taken into custody by Deputy Brent Thomas. Taylor was being held without bond pending an April 22 court appearance.

In an unrelated incident, a man has been arrested for committing a third offense of petty larceny after allegedly stealing money from a residence on Lakeshore Court.

Joseph Anthony Martinez, 32, of the 3800 block of Pocahontas Trail, was arrested on Apr. 18 on one count of felony petty larceny (third or subsequent offense).

New Kent Deputy Chris Bristow conducted an investigation into the alleged incident. A warrant for Martinez was taken out and he was taken into custody. The suspect was being held without bond pending an April 22 court appearance.

In another unrelated matter, a Quinton woman was taken into custody after information concerning a theft was received during a sheriff’s investigation in New Kent.

On Apr. 10, New Kent Deputy Gerry Simpson arrested Samantha N. Rigdon, 20, of the 9000 block of Shewbury Drive, Quinton, on one count each of grand larceny and intent to sell stolen property. Rigdon allegedly stole jewelry from an address on Old Church Road on March 15. She was being held without bond pending an April 15 court appearance.

In an unrelated situation, a Charles City man is charged with driving after being declared a habitual offender and other charges. Floyd Lee Atkins, 46, of the 8300 block of Old Cemetary Road, was arrested on Apr. 10 by Sgt. Brandon Jenkins on one count each of driving as a habitual offender, DUI (2nd offense within 5 to 10 years), and consuming alcohol while driving.

According to the incident report, Jenkins located a vehicle on the shoulder of Route 60 (Pocahontas Trail) near Route 106 (Emmaus Church Road). The deputy conducted a sobriety test based on his observations and later arrested Atkins for driving under the influence. A background check revealed Atkins is a habitual offender. Atkins was being held at Henrico Jail East on no bond pending an April 15 court appearance.
