Colonial Heights man pleads guilty to firearm possession
A Colonial Heights man entered a guilty plea during June 20 proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court.
Dallas James Anthony, 23, of the 2700 block of Tipton Street, received a guilty conviction on one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (within the last 10 years).
In a summary of evidence, last Jan. 12 conservation officer John Goodwin received notification of shots being heard from the firing range after hours. Goodwin proceeded to the range where he located the defendant firing a shotgun. After the officer asked Anthony information about his background and checked his identification, results indicated his convicted felon status. Anthony was taken into custody shortly afterwards.
Anthony will have formal sentencing on Aug. 8. However, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of two years under state law for possessing the firearm as a convicted felon.
