Eastbound Interstate 64 in New Kent will receive an overhaul as part of Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) resurfacing project.

Lee Hy Paving and VDOT will partner up to resurface nearly 16 miles of interstate in New Kent, beginning at mile marker 209 and concluding near mile marker 224.

Phases of the construction have already begun, with underdrains being replaced on the shoulders of the interstate. Once drainage is complete, paving will begin in mid-July and conclude in October. An intermediate layer will be placed during that time frame, with a surface layer being added next year.

Drivers can expect periodic lane closures throughout the project, which will take place during overnight hours. Additional resurfacing work on Interstate 64 is planned between Bottoms Bridge (mile marker 205) and mile marker 209, just east of Airport Road. The project is scheduled for 2016 with completion set for 2017.

Completion of the Interstate 64 Eastbound project is set for November 2015. Cost of the project is estimated at $13.9 million.

In other VDOT assignments, Route 60 (Pocahontas Trail) will also undergo overnight paving next week.

On June 29, the left lane of eastbound Route 60 from the New Kent County line to Patriot’s Landing will be closed from 8:30 p.m.-8 a.m. Subsequently, the right lane will between New Kent Highway and New Kent County line will be closed July 1-2.
