Habitual offender receives one year in jail after accepting plea in Charles City
A Richmond man who was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign in Charles City will serve a year in jail after accepting a plea agreement.
James Edward Williams Jr., 55, of the 1300 block of Bull Run Drive, entered a guilty plea to one count of driving as a habitual offender (fourth offense) during May 5 proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court.
In a summary of evidence, a Charles City deputy observed a vehicle failing to come to a halt at the intersection of Wayside and Roxbury Road on Feb. 4. After a traffic stop, the deputy ran a check on Williams’ information, which revealed his license had been revoked after he was declared a habitual offender. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Under the plea agreement, he received three years in jail, with two years suspended.
