Panagiotis K. Tsigaridas has been named as the new principal of the recently consolidated Charles City High School effective July 1.

Tsigaridas served as an assistant principal at Denbigh High School in Newport News for seven years prior to his new appointment. He has also served as an assistant principal for the Summer Academy at Tabb High School, and taught science classes in biology and anatomy at Woodside High School.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Tsigaridas join our leadership team,” said school board chairwoman Helen Payne-Jones. “The school board is confident that he will bring new ideas, vision, and opportunity to our high school students as they continue to soar in their student achievement.”

As an assistant principal, Tsigaridas implemented numerous strategies and programs that included developing creative and engaging lessons for students, collaborating with teachers to improve their techniques, and coordinating Saturday School which helped reduce the dropout rate at Denbigh High School.

“As the new principal of Charles City High School, I will work to increase opportunities to have everyone be an active member of the learning and success that takes place at our school,” Tsigaridas said in a press release. “School performance goes beyond a test score and it also depends on the level of involvement and engagement of our students and teachers in athletics, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, and classroom learning.”
