Letter of Intent with C5 LLC sets up possible development of data centers in Charles City
Charles City Board of Supervisors approved a letter of intent (LOI) with C5, LLC, for the possible development of data centers.
The approval came at the Sept. 24 meeting with little pushback. Approximately 87.5 acres would be sold to Bruce Howard Construction for the $1 million land development.
At the center of confusing was the use of the name “C5”. C5 LLC is different from the nonprofit organization C5 (Concerned Citizens of Charles City County). LaVeesha Rollins of the latter said that the company used their name to deceive residents.
“It appears there has been a deliberate intention to create a C5, LLC, that has influenced residents to thing that we created the data center,” Rollins commented. “I would like to say that we as C5 would like to think that was an unintentional mistake trying to misrepresent us so that it could be an influence to getting people to support that organization and data center.”
While the area located near Chambers Road faced no opposition, concerns over the environment, power, and water usage were issues. But county leaders voted to approve the land, with the next step being the approval to purchase a contract to stat the data center. However, a public hearing and resolution would take place prior to that approval. Those items are expected to take place at the October meeting.
