Former Charles City supervisor appointed interim county administrator
A former member of Charles City’s Board of Supervisors has been tabbed as interim county administrator.
Bill Coada, who served from 2012-2023 as the representative of District 2, will fill-in on a temporary basis for Charles City County Administrator Michelle Johnson who will be out on medical leave. The interim status is expected to last two months.
The decision came during Tuesday night’s Board of Supervisors work session. County leaders went into closed session shortly after the commencement of the meeting and returned with the announcement.
In a statement, Coada said that he is focused on cutting costs to prohibit the county’s future borrowing of funds, evaluating space at the government building, conducting workshops that focus on the fund balance, local government operations, how to get an item on a ballot for consideration, and the current agreement of the leasing of the neighborhood facility building.
In other news, District 1 representative Ryan Patterson asked Johnson and Coada to look into why the county needed to borrow $5 million. In August, county leaders agreed to $5.2 million of loans through a Revenue Anticipation Note. Patterson expressed concern about the financial status of Charles City County.
