Crash in New Kent on Interstate 64 claims lives of two people

A crash on Interstate 64 in New Kent County has claimed the lives of two people.

According to a Virginia State Police report on Friday, Nov. 8, officers responded to a crash on Interstate 64 westbound at mile marker 206 in New Kent County. A preliminary investigation reveals that a tire blew on a 2003 Kenworth T800, causing the truck to run off the road and strike the tree. The vehicle subsequently caught fire.

The driver, Eric Latrell Upshaw, 36, of Walkerton, and his passenger, Randall Benton Cooper, 40, of Glen Allen, succumbed to injuries at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
