Thirteen people indicted by New Kent grand jury during proceedings

A baker’s dozen of individuals were indicted by a New Kent grand jury following Monday morning proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court:

–John Carlton Babcock, 20, of the 5900 block of Plaster Lane, Quinton, on a lone count of possession of a Schedule I/II substance. The defendant was allegedly in possession of cocaine on Apr. 30, 2024.

–Michael Eugene Brown II, 26, of the 400 block of 6th Avenue, Wall, South Dakota, one a solo count of felony child abuse. The offense allegedly occurred on July 1, 2024.

–Tavares Butts, 24, currently of Henrico Jail East, on a single charge of possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner. The defendant allegedly had constructed an object with a harp edge on Nov. 3, 2024.

–Nancy Helena Conte, 33, of the 4000 block of Quinton Road, Quinton, on one charge each of credit card larceny and misdemeanor credit card fraud. The defendant allegedly stole the victim’s card on June 17, 2024 and purchased food.

–Shelby Diane Cornetta, 38, of the 7600 block of Wister Village Drive, Richmond, one count each of possession of a Schedule I/II drug and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. The defendant allegedly possessed methamphetamine on Sept. 27, 2024.

–Samuel Jessiecole Harris Jr., 30, of the 1600 block of Hudgins Farms Creek, Fredericksburg, on a solo charge of possession of a weapon by a violent felon. The offense allegedly occurred on Aug. 24, 2024.

–Trevon Devasiay Myricks, 32, of the 8000 block of Roxboro Road, Norfolk, on one count each of forgery and misdemeanor obtaining money by false pretenses. The offenses allegedly took place on Nov. 8, 2024.

–Ryan Rashad Paris, 24, of the 12000 block of Declaration Avenue, Chester, on two counts of credit card larceny and one count of felony failure to appear. Paris allegedly stole credit cards on May 5, 2023 and did not report for his court date on Oct. 16, 2024.

–Charles Edward Payne, 55, of the 1100 block of Oak Level Road, Halifax, on three counts of uttering, one count of felony driving revoked, and one count of misdemeanor providing a false identification to a law enforcement officer. Payne is alleged to have forged somebody else’s name on a summons after being stopped for a traffic violation on Mar. 13, 2023.

–Ivan Dickson Rutter, 33, of the 7200 block of Olivet Church Road, Quinton, on a lone charge of grand theft auto. The defendant allegedly stole a Toyota Corolla belonging to Philip Schutz Jr. On May 12, 2024.

–Devon Alexander Sabb, 31, of the 400 block of Cox Landing, Newport News, on one count each of felony eluding of police, misdemeanor reckless driving, and misdemeanor driving suspended. Sabb allegedly initiated a high-speed pursuit on Nov. 5, 2024.

–Anthony Francis Velella, 48, of the 7400 block of Lakeshore Drive, Quinton, on a single charge of felony eluding of police. The defendant allegedly led officers on a high-speed chase that began in New Kent on Aug. 28, 2024.

–Ryan Dale Washington, 34, of the 2800 block of Patriots Landing Drive, Quinton, on one count each of possession of a Schedule I/II drug, possession of a Schedule I/II drug while in possession of a gun, possession of a gun by a nonviolent felon, and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated (first offense). Washington allegedly operated a vehicle impaired on Sept. 21, 2024, and had both drugs and a gun upon being stopped.
