Joppy, superintendent of Charles City County Public Schools, to step down effective July 1

Charles City Superintendent of Schools Dalphine Joppy has announced her resignation effective July 1.

“This was not an easy decision; this is a personal decision that I feel compelled to during this season of my personal life,” Joppy said in a press release. “It has been my true honor to work with our school board and serve the students, teachers, staff, and families, and community for the past five years.”

Prior to serving in Charles City, Joppy worked as the director of professional and organization development at Chesapeake City Public Schools for five years. She also has served as a staff development specialist, assistant principal, and principal across several divisions.

Joppy, who was just named as Region I Superintendent of the Year, expressed her gratitude towards the school division.

“I am thankful for our school board members who consistently support students; ensuring they have what they need to be successful,” her comments added. “Additionally, I’m grateful for the hard work of teachers and staff. Because of their fortitude and commitment to doing what’s best for students, I am certain that our students will continue to thrive in the future.”

Charles City County Public Schools also released a statement to the public after being informed of Joppy’s decision.

“The Charles City County School Board was deeply saddened to receive Dr. Joppy’s resignation, effective July 1, 2025,” they said in a statement. “While we respect her personal decision, we remain profoundly grateful for her five years of dedicated service and unwavering commitment to our school division.

“Though her departure marks the end of an important chapter, we extend our sincere best wishes to Dr. Joppy in her future endeavors.”

The school board that it will begin the process for a new superintendent and will continue to solicit input from stakeholders during the undertaking.
