Floyd Hugo Miles Jr.

Sgt. Floyd Hugo Miles Jr., 45, of Charles City, Virginia, entered eternal rest while in the line of duty on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

Floyd is the son of Floyd H. Miles Sr. and Clem E. Miles. He was a 1996 graduate of Charles City High School, where he loved being a member of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and the football team. He was a member of Little Elam Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his family members, including his uncle Archer (June) Jones Jr., and cousins Andre’ and Tenesha Jones, along with many other close residents.

Sergeant Miles enlisted in the United States Army as a military police officer upon graduating from high school. Upon his return to Charles City County, he proudly served in the sheriff’s office for 16 years where he held the position of supervisor of Patrol and Animal Control. Additionally, he served as a board member of the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program for 15 years. He was also a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Instructor, General Instructor, Project Lifesaver Coordinator, School Resource Officer, and recipient of multiple awards from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) for his intervention and enforcement efforts, along with numerous other certifications and instructorships. Floyd had a genuine passion not only for the residents of Charles City County, but also for all residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He consistently excelled in his field, most recently graduating Animal Control School.

In 2014, he married the love of his life, Denise S. Miles, and forged an everlasting relationship with his three stepsons, Steven Jr., Rashad, and Taequan. He had an unbreakable bond with his brothers, Sean, Jonathan, and Michael, which was only incomparable when it came to the love he had for his baby sister, Sara. He enjoyed fishing with his ‘brother from another mother’, Scott Greene, and cherished spending quality time with family and friends, especially his grandson, Jaylen Williams, and one of his favorite aunts, Joyce Crawley. He had a passion for cooking and would often times invite other deputies from his department over to his house for dinner.
