Gloria Goodrich Johnson

Gloria Goodrich Johnson, 71, of Providence Forge, Virginia, went to join her Lord and Savior on arch 14, 2025.

She fought a hard three-and-a-half year battle with cancer with the same grace, dignity, and faith that she led her life. Gloria was at peace in her final days as she knew her body would be healed, and she would join the lord.

Gloria graduated from Surry Academy, attended VCU, and obtained her Master of Education. In 2015, she retired from New Kent County Schools after 25 years of teaching elementary children. She loved her career but found her true joy in retirement. She had a love for life and filled it with friends, family, and travel.

She traveled to Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Hawaii, Niagara Falls, Las Vegas, and had a host of other adventures. Some of her favorite memories were trips to the Outer Banks with family and friends.

Gloria was an active church member at Providence Forge Presbyterian Church. She volunteered her time and talents with the Junior Women’s Club. Gloria loved vintage items. When she was not traveling or spending time with family and friends, you could find her “antiquing” or working on a craft project. She genuinely loved tuning vintage things into newfound treasures. Gloria enjoyed working in her yard. She loved planting and nourishing and had quite the green thumb. A weed did not stand a chance if Gloria was nearby.

Gloria was a humble and selfless person. She found joy in helping others and going out of her way to make others happy. Her passing leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.

2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith and not sight.”

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Daisy Goodrich; and brother-in-law, George Temple.

She is survived by her devoted sons, Taylor (Lauren) and Emory; sister, Wanda Temple; treasured granddaughter, Hannah, who was her pride and joy; niece, Gloria (Trevor); nephew, Jeff (Marissa); a special friend, John Brock; and a host of additional family and close friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Mar. 21, 2025, 12-3 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, Virginia. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 22, 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Waverly Cemetery, 248 Spring Branch Road, Waverly, Virginia, 23890.

2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Providence Forge Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 239, Providence Forge, Virginia, 23140.
