DYNASTY: Five straight Bay Rivers titles

New Kent’s wrestling team captured its fifth consecutive Bay Rivers District tournament championship, edging regular season champion Poquoson by 10.5 points in the Feb. 1-2 tourney at Tabb. The Trojans scored 225.5 points to the runner-up Islanders’ 215. The tourney victory avenged a narrow 35-33 regular season loss to Poquoson that snapped the Trojans’ 48-meet winning streak in Bay Rivers’ dual competition. Blake Hohman (126), Corey Todd (132), B.C. LaPrade (138), and Wilson Gregory (220) emerged as weight class champions. Runners-up included Brett Flora (152), Zach Edmonds (160), and Devin Gouldine (170). Jackson Gray (106) and Bryson Mitchell (113) both finished fourth. LaPrade, meanwhile, was voted Bay Rivers District wrestler of the year.
