New Kent track teams sweep

New Kent’s girls and boys track teams each won by more than 50 points as both took first in the opening track meet of the 2013 season against Tidewater area schools at New Kent on March 13.

New Kent’s girls scored 166 points to defeat King William (114) followed by Mathews (71), Middlesex (43), Washington and Lee (24), and Charles City (18).

The Lady Trojans were paced by Adrienne Goodlet who won three events, claiming the top spot in the 100 meter dash (12.49), 200 meter dash (27.91), and high jump (4’4”). Danielle Holzhauser was a double event winner in the 100 meter hurdles (17.53) and 300 hurdles (53.07). Other event winners for the hosts included New Kent’s 4×400 relay team (4:46.67), Brynna Watkins in long jump (14’2”), and Taylor Stevens in pole vault (8’0”).

On the boys’ side, New Kent scored 156 points to top second place King William (105). Washington & Lee scored 58 to finish third, while Charles City and Mathews tied for fourth with 53.5 points apiece, and Middlesex rounded out the scoring with 35 points.

New Kent’s Coy Robinson and Austin Savage were double event winners. Robinson won the 400 meter dash (51.81) and 800 meter run (2:21.63), while Savage took the top spot in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 4:43.31 and 10:50.88, respectively. Other event winners for the Trojans were Nic Crewe in the 100 meter dash (12.15), the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams with times of 4:04.04 and 9:25.90, and Archer Minor in pole vault (10’0”).

Charles City’s Daron Jones was the lone event winner for the Panthers, winning the triple jump with a leap of 41’0”.
