Jones top male athlete, CC boys 2nd, girls 4th in T-RD

Despite Daron Jones being named most outstanding performer at the meet, Charles City’s Panthers fell short of claiming the team title on May 14 at the Tri-Rivers District Championships.

Charles City accumulated 114 points to finish as runner-up to Sussex Central’s 133 points. Franklin’s 101, Windsor’s 54, Surry County’s 35, and Chesterfield Community’s 26 rounded out the scoring.

Jones claimed victories in the boys’ triple jump (41’6”) and 300 hurdles (44.51) while finishing second in the 110 hurdles, long jump, and placing third in the high jump to earn honors as the top male athlete at the championships.

Panthers also garnered double winners in Jaelen Williams in the shot and discus with tosses of 41’0” and 116’10” respectively, and Cruz Adkins in the 800 meter (2:15.80) and 3200 meter runs (13:10.14).

On the girls’ side, the Lady Panthers mustered 36 points for a fourth place finish at the event.

Windsor had no problems claiming the team title, amassing 187 points. They were followed by Sussex Central’s 95.5, Franklin’s 63.5, Charles City, and Surry County’s 23.

Charles City will participate in the Region A track meet today (May 23) at West Point High School.
