Lady Trojans claim second

New Kent’s Lady Trojans also claimed second seed status, topping Tabb’s Tigers 2-1 at York on May 25 in a playoff to determine Bay Rivers’ number two softball team. The win enabled New Kent to host a Region I opening game while Tabb was forced to go on the road.

Tabb took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Trojans evened the count in the bottom of the frame. Paige Simpson singled, stole second, and scored on Brittany LaPrade’s double.

Then in the third, the Lady Trojans produced the winning run after loading the bases. Karley Allen scored from third on Kristin Colegrove’s ground out.

Pitcher Marisa Bush held the Tigers to three hits while striking out eight. New Kent improved to 16-5.
