NK track team finishes 11th as 3200 relay wins at states

New Kent’s boys track team can stake its claim to at least one state championship.
Team members Coy Robinson, Chris Rolince, Tanner Smith, and Austin Savage joined forces and ran a time of 8:01.05 in the 3200 meter relay, claiming first in the event at the Group AA state track and field championships at Harrisonburg High School during the two-day meet last Friday and Saturday.
The quartet accounted for ten points as New Kent finished the meet with 20 points, good for a 11th place finish out of 79 teams. Savage also finished fourth in the 800 meter run (1:56.39), while he teamed with Smith, Robinson, and Zach Ford for a fourth place finish in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 3:25.39.
On the girls’ side, junior pole vaulter Daysa Jones finished in second place while classmate Adrienne Goodlet earned a pair of top five finishes as they powered the Lady Trojans to a 17th place finish at the state meet.
Jones eclipsed 10’9”, breaking the school record on her way to finishing as runner-up in the event. Goodlet sprinted to a fourth and fifth place finishes in the 200 meter dash (26.13) and 400 meter dash (57.89).
