Charles City Lady Panthers used a balance scoring attack as they cruised to a 62-21 victory over the visiting King & Queen Lady Tigers during a Feb. 6 Tidewater District contest.

The hosts took the lead for good just after the six-minute mark in the first half as Jessica Hill converted an easy lay-up. However, lackadaisical play towards the end of the first half by the Lady Panthers propelled the visitors to a 6-2 run and to cut the lead to 28-12.

“We had way more turnovers than what I wanted to have,” said Lady Panther head coach Vashaun Otey as he spoke on the team’s first half performance. “We’ve got to clean up and work on protecting the ball.”

Second half action kicked off on a favorable note, as the hosts converted five of the first six shots, commencing an 11-0 run and pushing the lead to 39-12. Charles City outscored King and Queen 23-9 the rest of the way to claim the win.

Otey spoke after the game, focusing on his team not playing up to their potential.

“We’re still not where we want to be,” the head coach said. “We’re not seeing the open person on offense.

“Tonight, we got lazy and we have to stop playing down to our competition,” Otey concluded.

Hill led all scorers for Charles City (11-7, 5-2 Tidewater) with 16 points while teammate Cheyenne Davis also finished in double figures with 15. Adrienne Miles added nine, Hailey Holmes tossed in eight, Mary Black scored six, and Taylor Bradby and Ke’Ara Jones both contributed four apiece.
