New Kent athletes win six events in five-team track meet

New Kent’s Lady Trojans won four events while the Trojans captured two in Tuesday’s home track meet with Bay Rivers foes Lafayette, Warhill, York, and Grafton.

In girls’ running events, Michaelia Gatling won the 100 meter hurdles in 20.11 while Adrienne Goodlet prevailed at 100 meters (13.09). On the field event side, Daysa Jones cleared 11 feet to easily win pole vault, and Taylor James covered 32-9 to capture triple jump.

The Trojans, meanwhile, dominated in the weight events. Christian Hill-Sanders heaved the shot 41-9 for first place while Joe Dixon uncorked a throw of 100-7 to win discus.

The Lady Trojans finished with 50.6 points for fourth overall. Lafayette scored 103.2 to place first followed by Warhill (96.6) and York (69). Grafton came in fifth with 34.6.

The Trojans placed third overall with 71 points. Lafayette took first with 139 while Warhill placed second with 74. York ended in fifth with 46 followed by Grafton’s 24.
