New Kent boys win track meet at Charles City

R.J. Morris and Andrew Carlin emerged as double-event winners while teammates Yuri Frazier and Zach Ford claimed first place in their respective events as New Kent’s Trojans won a six-team track meet at Charles City on March 26.
New Kent amassed 182 points to win the meet ahead of second place Armstrong (157), and host Charles City who finished in third with 53 points. Washington & Lee (45), Essex (30), and Richmond Christian (15) rounded out the scoring.
Carlin claimed the boys 1600 meter run in a time of 4:43.25 and followed it up by winning the 3200 meter run in a time of 10:16.43. Morris claimed the boys long and triple jump titles with leaps of 20’9” and 42’6½” respectively. Frazier won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:13.96, while Ford outraced opponents in the 400 meter dash in a time of 52.94.
For the girls, New Kent scored 66 points, good enough for a third place finish. Armstrong powered away with 191 points, while Washington & Lee scored 69 to squeeze into second. Essex finished in fourth with 57, host Charles City scored 14 points for fifth place, and Richmond Christian scored 12 to round out the scoring.
New Kent’s girls’ 400 meter relay team Samiyah Harris, Da’Mya Barnes, Alexis Cooper, and Daysha Goodlet composed a time of 55.48 to earn the lone first place victory for the Lady Trojans.
