McClain, Jones pace New Kent track teams

Caitlin McClain won two events while Darren Jones captured one to lead New Kent’s track teams in Wednesday’s home meet that featured all 10 high schools from the Bay Rivers District.

McClain won the shot put (33-7) and discus (96-10) to score 20 of the Lady Trojans’ 20½ points for the meet. Michaelia Gatling scored the half-point, tying for sixth in triple jump with a leap of 28-2½.

Jones, meanwhile, cleared 11-6 to win pole vault. Overall, the Trojans amassed 54 points for a third place overall finish.

Lafayette won the boys’ meet with 155 points and also prevailed on the girls’ side with 187½.
