Tabb’s Tigers collected 11 hits while New Kent’s host Trojans totaled 10, giving the impression of a reasonably close baseball game. The difference, however, rested with which team could convert those hits into runs, and the Tigers got the best of that category.

Tabb broke a 2-2 deadlock in the third inning and pulled away from there for an 8-2 win Thursday afternoon, handing the Trojans their 12th loss in 15 outings.

“We’re young and we’re getting better,” said Trojan coach Ronnie Cox. “I know our record doesn’t show it, but the glass is half full. We’ve just got to keep on plugging and working.”

Tabb took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Hunter Watson’s two-run single. New Kent evened the affair in the second after Brennan Gray drove a double into deep center field and Jared Mitchell singled to right. Hunter Pitts singled past third to drive in Gray while Blake Frye lined a single past shortstop, scoring Mitchell.

But the Trojan offense could not add to the scoreboard over the next five innings, despite stroking six hits. Tabb, meanwhile, moved in front to stay with a solo run in the third. The visitors added a pair in the fifth and one in the sixth before putting the contest out of reach with a two-run seventh.
