New Kent’s Lady Trojan softball team has seen enough of Park View-South Hill pitcher Odici Alexander. Over the past two seasons, Alexander has occupied the circle as the Dragons knocked New Kent out of the conference playoff picture on both occasions.
Thursday afternoon, the two teams met again, this time in a regular season match-up at New Kent. And for the third straight time, the outcome was the same. Park View prevailed 10-0 in five innings behind Alexander who allowed just two hits while striking out six.
“We started putting the bat on the ball toward the end,” said Lady Trojan coach Nicole O’Bier.
Unfortunately for the hosts, those balls, with the exception of a Peyton Slater double down the left field line, were stroked directly into the heart of the defense. Amanda Harding managed the other New Kent hit, a second inning single.
“They have it defensively, and they have it offensively,” O’Bier said about her players. “I know they have it. There are so many good ball players on this team. Hopefully, they can bring it out tomorrow [when New Kent hosts Tabb].”
Park View, meanwhile, jumped on top to stay with a two-run first inning. Alexander’s three-run homer over the left field fence highlighted a seven-run third frame.
In all, the Dragons collected 11 hits off New Kent pitching as the hosts dropped to 0-2 on the year.
