Over the final four innings, New Kent’s Trojans managed only one hit off Tabb pitching. The visiting Tigers, meanwhile, turned a one-run fifth inning lead into an eight-run advantage on the way to a 9-1 baseball victory, breaking the Trojans’ four-game win streak.
“We’d won four in a row and then do this,” a disappointed New Kent coach Michael Kuper said after Wednesday’s loss that dropped the Trojans to 8-6.
“It was not our best effort, but you’ve got to give credit to Tabb. They really held us down,” he said.
Tabb pushed across solo runs in the both the second and third innings. New Kent got one back in the third, taking advantage of back-to-back walks to Bryan Brooks and Jacob Rivera and Mitchell Metheny’s two-out looping RBI single to shallow right field.
But the Trojans ended the frame with the bases loaded, thus missing out on a chance to overtake the Tigers. The rest of the way, the hosts managed a single and four runners on base via walks.
Tabb added to their lead with a run in the fifth before putting the contest out of reach with a six-run sixth.
“It was tight game until the sixth and we had some opportunities that we let get away,” Kuper said. “It’s a little frustrating, but we’ll get back on the horse and get ready for tomorrow.”
